PIANO LESSONS
Whether you are a beginner or have had some music training, I can personalize your lessons to maximize your potential and get you playing melodies and songs right from the start! Your learning style informs how I will teach you, and I make it a personal goal to ensure you will have a positive experience that makes you excited to come to your next lesson. I make housecalls for piano lessons, so you will need a piano or at least a decent sized keyboard.
TROMBONE LESSONS / LOW BRASS LESSONS
As a professional trombonist for over 15 years, I have a wide range of experiences to draw from when I teach. My teaching profile is extensive, and you are welcome to request my resume. I will personalize your lessons to ensure your success, whether the goal is to become 1st chair in the high school Jazz Band, get better at sight-reading at gigs, or prepare for college auditions. Come prepared to work hard and have fun!
WORKSHOPS and SOLO PERFORMANCES
Workshops offer trombone students and composition students an opportunity to expand their technique with hands-on practice. Trombone workshops focus more on developing extended techniques and how to productively and positively collaborate with composers. Improvisation/Composition workshops focus more on getting the brain out of the way of creation to induce inspired composition.
My solo repertoire mostly consists of compositions written in the past 10 years. Since improvisation is a part of my composition process, I usually include improvisations in performances, which occasionally get transcribed and performed again. I am always on the lookout for unique collaboration opportunities and love to work with composers so they will have a deeper, more refined understanding of the trombone and how to compose for it.
Recent performances/workshops include the International Society of Improvised Music Conference and Yale University.
