Whether it's teaching innovative composition and improvisational techniques to youngsters or rigorous classical teaching on the trombone, I have been a sought after music teacher for students of all ages.
For 15 years I have taught hundreds of students in elementary, middle, high schools and colleges across the country. My skills as a deep listener and observer aid me in identifying the core needs of each student. My rigorous classical training on the trombone complements my composition and improvisation studies, enabling the well-rounded approach I have to teaching, my performance career, and to life in general. I have numerous references which I am happy to furnish, along with my resume upon request.
CLASSROOM MUSIC-Innovative and Fun Music Activities
I have created my own music program that promotes kids' innate creativity in a productive way. My opinion is that if kids are having fun while they work, they will learn faster and retain more information. Behind the mask of musical "experiments," like improvisation, rhythm games, composition games, accelerated recorder and homemade instrument building, I am actually teaching kids the basic rudiments of music theory.
Classes can be taught as a 4-8 weekly series, as an intensive 5 classes in one week, or as a half/whole semester. For the shorter classes, I can specialize in homemade instrument making, composition, or recorder. The longer classes will have elements of all three.

I AM CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW PRIVATE STUDENTS IN THE NYC AREA.
Private Lessons-Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, beginning Piano
I tailor lessons to suit the needs of the individual student. I cover basic fundamental drills, current ensemble music, style, phrasing and theory. I keep things light-hearted and encourage optimism even when the going gets tough.
Teaching Artist-Sectionals, Coaching
In sectionals, students learn to breathe together, phrase together, listen to one another as they play, and work out tough spots in the music. In addition, I do improvisation activities, like round-robin soloing while the rest of the group plays a steady groove.
RATES
Because each teaching scenario is unique, I charge according to the situation. A typical hour long private lesson is $65, and more if travel is involved. Classes and sectionals vary in length from 30 minutes to 90 minutes, so my rate reflects this as well as prep time (particularly for classroom music) and travel.
